The E-4 visa is issued to foreign nationals who possess specialized industrial or engineering technology and are contracted to transfer that knowledge to a Korean company. Unlike the E-7 (which covers a broad range of skilled jobs), the E-4 is specifically for technology transfer engagements — typically short- to medium-term consulting or training contracts rather than ongoing employment.
Highly specialized foreign engineers, technicians, or industrial consultants who have been contracted by a Korean company to transfer proprietary manufacturing processes, industrial equipment know-how, or specialized engineering techniques. Common in the automotive, semiconductor, shipbuilding, and heavy manufacturing sectors.
Contract with a Korean company for technology transfer services
Demonstrable expertise in the relevant technology or industrial process
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, OR recognized specialist certification, OR extensive professional experience
No criminal record
Approval from the relevant Korean government ministry may be required depending on the technology sector
Valid passport + completed visa application form + passport photo
Technology transfer or service contract with the Korean company
Technology Import Contract Notification Approval (기술도입계약신고수리서) — required when transferring proprietary industrial technology to a Korean entity

Evidence of specialized expertise (degree certificates, professional licenses, employment history)
Company's business registration documents (사업자등록증)
Criminal background check (apostilled, issued within 3 months)
Execute a technology transfer contract

Submit your visa application with all documents at the Korean embassy or consulate. Processing typically takes 2–4 weeks.
Fulfill the contract and register
Upon arrival, register at the immigration office within 90 days and begin your technology transfer engagement.
