Why school closure creates immediate visa risk
A D-4 visa is not a free-standing permission to stay for language study anywhere in Korea. It is based on study at a named institution. If that institution closes or can no longer provide the program, immigration can conclude the purpose of stay has ended unless you transfer promptly to another qualifying school.

The priority order is usually:
- Get written confirmation from the current school about closure, suspension, or inability to continue classes
- Secure admission from a replacement language institute or qualifying new school
- Contact immigration and report the situation before there is a long gap in study

A university language institute is often the cleanest transfer target if you need a more stable D-4-1 path.
Can you transfer to a new D-4 school inside Korea?
Often yes, but it is not fully automatic. Immigration will want to see that the new school qualifies and that the break in study was caused by the institution's problem, not by your own non-attendance. If the closure happened suddenly, document the timeline carefully so there is no appearance of an unexplained study gap.
When departure may still be required
If you cannot secure a new school quickly, or if the original institution had compliance problems that trigger broader immigration scrutiny, you may be asked to leave Korea and reapply from abroad.
